Week 6 (starting 19 Nov 2007)

This week, we have discussed during tutorial the PDCA approach to Process Improvement and the overview of Software Quality Assurance (SQA). The following chart explains again the main purpose for each of the phases iin PDCA. This will give you the high level idea to approach continuous process improvement.

During practical, we have exercised the construct of a Pareto chart. This is important as you wil be tested in the coming Quiz and final exam. Pareto charts work in the principle that 80% of the problems or defects are caused by 20% of the sources. The chart allows use to identify that these 80% of the problems or defects so that we can focus our efforts to resolve these critical problems. We have also looked into the cause-n-effect diagram which illustrate how root causes of the problems or defects can be identified. Below shows the suggested solution by IT1573-01 students.

For the coming Quiz in week 8, the scope will include topics covered during lecture, tutorial and practical since week 1 to 5 (i.e. up to and including the Quality tools). The format, as mentioned in last lecture, will have 10 MCQs and at least 5 to 7 short questions. Sample of the questions are also discussed in the lecture (hint - you must know the answers for the sample questions !!) . Bring along calculator as you will need it to construct the pareto chart.
